Tony Pena Knot

Excellent knot to tie a braided type line to mono
This example is 65# Power Pro to 50# Mono

The braided line is connected to the pole and the mono will be your leader.  Place the two side by side. Tie an over hand knot in the mono around the braided line.  Make sure the braided line runs straight through the center of the knot. Cinch the mono knot up real tight.  Make sure you have about six inches of the tag end of the braided line protruding out the mono knot towards the leader end. Lay the knot over your finger and form a "Y" with the mono leader end and the braided tag end.

Pinch the "Y" between your fingers as shown.  Tie off or have someone hold the mono leader so it remains tight.  Add eleven overhand wraps around the mono.  Leave a small space between the wraps as shown. Add another eleven overhand wraps over the first wraps.  Go in the opposite direction towards the knot and fill the gaps left by the first wraps. Move your fingers off the knot and you should have a loop.

Place the tag end of the braided line through the loop.  As you tighten the knot up, remember to always keep the mono line tight .Moisten the entire knot.  Pull the braided line ( line to the pole) tight.   As you do this, slide the wraps up towards the knot so it all snugs up tight. This is what you should end up with.  Cut off the two tag ends.  Do not cut off the mono end too short.  Make sure the braided line is tight and under the mono knot
